ECC Invites Industry Professionals to Inspire the Next Generation of Manufacturing Workers

Elgin Community College (ECC) is inviting experienced manufacturing and skilled-trades professionals to bring their industry knowledge into the classroom and help prepare the next generation of workers for in-demand careers.

ECC is currently recruiting part-time instructors for several programs housed within the college’s new 150,000-square-foot Manufacturing & Technology Center, including welding, HVAC, advanced manufacturing, automation and robotics, computer-integrated manufacturing, and maintenance technology.

The opportunities are designed for professionals who want to continue working in their field while sharing the skills and experience they have gained throughout their careers. Flexible teaching schedules may include daytime, afternoon, evening, and weekend courses.

Many ECC adjunct instructors remain active in industry while teaching, allowing students to learn directly from professionals who understand current workplace expectations, emerging technologies, and the practical skills employers need.

ECC’s Manufacturing & Technology Center was designed to reflect modern manufacturing workplaces and provide students with hands-on experience using industry-aligned equipment and technology. The facility supports programs preparing students for careers across advanced manufacturing and the skilled trades, while also strengthening the college’s partnerships with employers throughout the region.

ECC is seeking professionals who have a passion for mentoring emerging workers, can translate complex technical concepts into practical learning experiences, and are comfortable working with students from a variety of backgrounds.

Prior college teaching experience is not required. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in technical instruction or training, which may include corporate or in-house training, workforce or apprenticeship mentoring, or informal and on-the-job training in an industrial setting. ECC also provides support and guidance for professionals transitioning into teaching for the first time.
