ROCKFORD, Ill. (March 20, 2025) – OrthoIllinois  and OrthoMidwest are pleased to announce a historic milestone in orthopedic care with the introduction of a groundbreaking new procedure. Dr. Frank Bohnenkamp and Dr. Mark Oyer are the first surgeons to perform partial knee replacements using the Velys robotic-assisted technology in Illinois and Wisconsin. These procedures were completed at OrthoIllinois Surgery Center in Elgin and OrthoMidwest Surgery Center in Beloit, Wisconsin.

The Velys Robotic-Assisted Solution, developed by DePuy Synthes, part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, allows surgeons to make more precise adjustments which ensures better implant fit and overall surgery results. This technological advancement creates personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and needs. By using the Velys system, surgeons can perform minimally invasive knee replacements meaning faster recovery times and less pain for patients.
