DESCRIPTION:VETERANS MEMORIAL REDEDICATION\n\n\n\nThe Village of Lake in the Hills invites you to a Memorial Day ceremony to salute all military veterans including American Legion Post 1231\n\nas we rededicate the memorial in their honor.\n\n\n\nMAY 25\, 2026 | 9:00 AM\n\n\n\nPARKING AT VILLAGE HALL\n\n600 HARVEST GATE\n\nLAKE IN THE HILLS\, IL 60156\n\n \n\nThe Veterans Memorial honors and gives thanks to the veterans and service members who have given of themselves to protect our country.\n\nIn August 2013\, plans for the memorial were unveiled at a Committee of the Whole meeting\, and elected officials gave their full support to the plan. The Village committed $40\,000 to the project\, and the remainder of funding needed was raised through private donations\, grants\, and trade labor.\n\nOn Veterans Day in November 2014\, the Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the memorial. Construction began in 2015. Throughout the year\, builders poured concrete\, installed flag poles\, started the brick plaza\, and mounted the granite slabs representing each branch of the military in the concrete. On Veterans Day 2015\, the committee held a dedication ceremony for the work completed to date. In 2016\, benches were added along with a stone wall between the granite slabs. In 2025\, the memorial was relocated between Village Hall and the new Police Facility\, and a new granite slab was added for the sixth branch of the U.S. Military\, Space Force. \n\nCommemorative bricks will be continually added to the plaza. \n\nPlease note that the Village has a wheelchair available for people who would like to visit the memorial but require physical assistance to do so. Please contact the Village Hall at 847-960-7400 for assistance.
